The Majority Leader Adamawa State House of Assembly and Member representing Demsa constituency, Hon. Mrs Kate Raymond Mamuno FCNA, has commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for approving the construction of NYSC Camp Damare-Borrong 44-km Road Project.
Hon. Mamuno who is also the chairman house committee on women affairs and social development, gave the commendation while speaking with Assembly correspondents in Yola, saying that the road project when completed will open up the area for further socio-economic development.
The lawmaker also commended Governor Fintiri for his determination towards attracting development to all parts of the state, said she had always told her constituents to be patient and supportive of the administration as development was sure for the area.
The lawmaker said her constituents were excited over the awarding of the project and commended Governor Fintiri for listening to the agitation of the people, noting that the road construction and other infrastructural development have multiplier effects, as the state government was creating the enabling environment for investments to thrive in the Adamawa.
She added that, besides opening up business and economic activities of Demsa and its environs, it will also provide job opportunities for youths of the area who could be engaged in the construction work.
Hon. Kate also called on the Ministry of Works and that of Rural Infrastructure and Community Development to expedite action to ensure timely completion of the road projects that have been awarded in the state
The lawmaker pledged the continued support of the people of Demsa to the Fintiri administration, assuring that she would liaise with other critical stakeholders in the constituency to ensure its smooth execution.
She charged the contractors handling the various road projects across the state to take advantage of the dry weather to speed up work on the projects.
The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the reconstruction of a 44-km road from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Damare to Borong, the Headquarters of Borrong Development Area in Demsa LGA, at a cost of N836 million.
This was the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and held on November 29, 2023, at the Government House.
Yola-Borrong Road has suffered neglect over the years until recently when it was considered for rehabilitation under the RAMP State and World Bank collaborative efforts, which gave the road a facelift until this administration’s gracious consideration for its reconstruction.
It could be recalled that, the 7th Adamawa State House of Assembly had sometime in 2022 passed a resolution mandating relevant authorities to urgently commence repairing of rural access roads badly damaged by flooding.
The house resolution followed the adoption of a motion under matters of urgent public importance raised on the floor by Deputy Majority Leader of the 7th Assembly Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno of Demsa constituency, now the Majority Leader.
According to Hon Kate Mamuno, roads in her constituency has been in terrible state following the 2022 flood, adding that the deplorable condition of the roads has continued to affect residents and businesses negatively.
The lawmaker said Demsa constituents had not ceased calling on the relevant authorities to end their nightmares on the roads.
She urged the honourable house to mandate relevant authorities to come to aid of her constituents to ease their movement and that of goods and services especially the farm produce.
After considering the importance of her motion, the 7th Assembly directed the clerk to the assembly to communicate all the resolutions passed to the relevant authorities for necessary action in the interest of their constituents.
