Following executive directives from Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to strengthen disaster preparedness and flood mitigation across Adamawa State, the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) has launched a targeted flood sensitization and public awareness campaign in vulnerable communities within the Gombi and Song Local Government Areas.

To execute the state-wide mitigation strategy, ADSEMA Executive Secretary Dr. Celine Laori deployed emergency officers across key riverine and flood-prone zones. Leading the operational team in the Central Senatorial District, Mr. Johnson Maxwell, Director of Relief, Rescue, and Rehabilitation, conducted direct field engagements across Hong, Gombi, and Song LGAs to reinforce emergency readiness at the grassroots level.

The campaign brought together local government authorities, traditional institutions, security personnel, and community members to build localized disaster resilience.

Operations were conducted in Bawa Community in collaboration with the Vice Chairman of Gombi Local Government Area, Hon. Amina Usman.

Community outreaches targeted Gada-Mayo and Goduwo Communities, coordinated alongside the Vice Chairman of Song Local Government Area, Hon. Happy Renos.
Emergency teams worked directly with representatives from Local Government Emergency Management Committees (LEMC) and Community Emergency Management Committees (CEMC) to establish clear protocols for disaster risk reduction.

During the campaign sessions, ADSEMA officials outlined key preventive measures and emergency communication protocols designed to minimize risk during peak rainfall periods:

Drainage Maintenance: Residents were instructed to clear blocked waterways, culverts, and local drainage channels to permit unobstructed water flow.

Early Warning Reporting: Community members were urged to monitor local water levels and immediately report early warning signs of flooding to their respective CEMC and LEMC representatives to trigger swift emergency responses.

Peace and Civic Engagement: Officials encouraged residents to serve as peace ambassadors and help disseminate flood awareness guidelines to neighboring settlements.

Community leaders across the visited districts expressed appreciation to the Adamawa State Government, the Permanent Secretary of the Agency Dr. Celine Laori, and the ADSEMA field teams lead by Mr. Johnson Maxwell for the proactive outreach, pledging full cooperation in sharing mitigation practices across the region.
