The Adamawa State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment towards ensuring checks and balances in the activities of government Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The chairman house committee on public service, public petition and electoral matters who is also the member representing Shelleng Constituency Hon. Kantomon Bulus Naphtali made the assertion when he led other committee members for oversight function in Adamawa state independent electoral commission.
Represented by the vice chairman of the committee and member representing Song constituency, Mr. Emmanuel Kefas, said the members of the committee were at the commission to acquaint themselves with the management and look areas the committee can intervene In order to ensure effective services to the people of the state.
He assured the management of ADSIEC that the state Assembly will present their problems before the floor of the house for resolutions and necessary action.
Members of the committee comprising of Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ahmed Jingi Belel of Maiha, Hon. Bulus Geoffrey of Leko Koma and Hon. John Alaba of Uba/Gaya constituencies, charged the management of the commission to work in synergy with the committee and always comply with the rules of governance.
In his response the chairman Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission ADSIEC Alhaji Mohammed Umar thanked the committee for the visit and promised to work hand in hand with the lawmakers for the overall development of the state.
The chairman enumerated some of the commissions challenges which includes; poor working environment, utility vehicles, lack of training to staff, office at various local government areas among others.
He appealed to the committee to intervene by pressing on the executive to provide enabling working environment and other facilities for smooth running of the commission’s activities.
