Adamawa state government has appreciated the Japanese government for initiating
$4,490,000,00 project aimed at rehabilitating health care facilities in the state.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri made the appreciation in his keynote address during inauguration of the project at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola Wednesday.
Fintiri said the project is aligned in complementing government decision to close IDP camps across the state.
He assured that government is leveraging on the Japanese experience to improve the state economy through use of ICT in schools, deployment of digital health technologies and entrepreneurship development.
Speaking for her principal, the state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, said the project is aimed at tackling challenges among imternally displaced persons, returnees and host communities.
Earlier, Mr Laurent De Boeck – Chief of Mission IOM stated that 150,000 residents would benefit from the rehabilitated facilities, 80 persons with disabilities would benefit from referrals and specialized assistance to 1,350 beneficiaries would also benefit from cash-for-work
Additionally he noted, 216 health care professionals would also receive capacity building training as part of the probjects in Maiha, Michika, Song, Mubi-North, Mubi-South, Hong, Lanurde and Gombi LGAs of the state.
The Chief of Mission IOM further said for any country facing conflict and displacement, fostering peaceful coexistence and an inclusive environment is crucial.
He stated “Encouraging the return and resettlement of IDPs along with ensuring access to qualify health care is a vital part of this effort”.
The support he added is also aimed at strengthening the capacities of governments in the six conflict affected states in the North-East.
Mr Maliki Hamidine, Head of Sub-office Yola said the project will enhance the well being of people, especially the vulnerable, thereby fortifying the health system to ensure citizens have access to improved and quality healthcare services.
Dr Suleiman Bashir, Executive Secretary, Adamawa Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADPHCDA), pointed out that the project is aimed at improving the mandate of the agency through restoration of livelihood of the people.##
