The Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta has advised that strike should be the last option of negotiation between unions and employers.
Addressing a delegation of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Monday led by its national President Mohammed Ibrahim in her office, Farauta urged the union to support institutions in their quest to deliver quality education to students.
The union had come to the deputy governor ahead of its forthcoming zonal meeting scheduled to hold at the Adamawa State University, Mubi.
She emphasized the need for peace as a panacea for development, emphasizing amicable resolution of any issues at all times.
She said strike is detrimental to growth and should be the last option of negotiation.
The deputy governor appealed to the Federal Government to make the proposed students loan accessible because many people have been affected by insurgency among other terrorist activities, adding that the appointment of the national president of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the son of the soil Mohammed Ibrahim into the students loan scheme committee is an added advantage to the north eastern states.
She appreciated the support given her by the unions and students during her time at the state university Mubi, urging them to always extend same to her successor.
Earlier, the National President Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities Mohammed Ibrahim said the zonal meeting is an avenue for the association to appraise the situation in the universities as it affects their members and also set agenda for government.
Ibrahim promised to project the good image of Adamawa State University Mubi, describing the deputy governor as a reliable person to reckon with in view.
