A Diploma 2 female student of the Federal Polytechnic Mubi doing industrial attachment with Adamawa State Television (ATV), Yola, has committed suicide.
The lady, 24-year-old Jemima Shetima Balami allegedly swallowed a poisonous substance after her male friend announced that he was no longer interested in the relationship.
The male friend is said to be a lecturer with the Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola.
Jemima who hails from Garkida, in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, died at her residence in Vinikilang, a riverside community near the state capital, Yola.
Jemima who was studying Mass Communication and was at the ATV for practical broadcasing practice, is said to be the only daughter of her father.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje who confirmed the incident on Monday, said the father of the deceased reported the matter.
“The father of Jamima reported that she committed suicide by taking a deadly substance. Another version had it that she visited her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, and was told to quit the relationship. Angered by the news of exiting her boyfriend, the deceased took poison,” the Police image maker said.
