Adamawa Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapha Farauta has inspect flood ravaged parts of Shagari and Yolde-pate where two persons were confirmed dead and properties destroyed in Yola-South local government area.
The flood caused by heavy down pour which lasted for over 10 hours and submerged houses and farmlands.
Addressing victims at Modibo Adama University Teaching Hospital Yola, where the injured were receiving treatment, Farauta directed shelter be provided immediately to cushion the hardships on the victims
“We woke up with flood and have confirmed two persons dead government is shocked with the devastating flood,
“Many injured and lost almost everything.
“Government would provides food, clothing and medication immediately to the victims.
Farauta who said the level of damages can not be quantified for added that all the agencies involved in disaster management are working to ensure people are rescued.
Dr Yusuf Nuhu who is attending to the injured at the Accident and Emergency Unit also confirmed the causality figure.
Nuhu further explained the victims are responding to the treatment.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Head of Operations Ladan Ayuba, said some of the victims doesn’t want to be evacuated from their houses for fear of hoodlums carting away their ruminants of the property as major challenges confronting rescue operations
One of the victim, Aliyu Mustapha stated that some children are still missing to the flood, after losing his means of livelihood
