Adamawa state government has advised its citizenry to adopt precautionary measures against three-day thunderstorms and rain predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in the state.
A Statement from the Office of the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapha Farauta said
NiMet predicted thundery and rainy weather activities from Saturday to Monday across Nigeria which Adamawa state is inclusive.
NiMet’s weather outlook released on Friday in Abuja anticipated prospects of morning thunderstorms on Sunday over parts of Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba States in the northern region.
It envisaged thunderstorms with rain over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, and Bauchi States later in the day.
The agency envisaged morning thunderstorms over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba States in the Northern region on Monday.
According to it, the public should take adequate precaution as strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur.
NiMet urged the public to ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision and avoid driving under heavy rain.
“Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets. Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.
“Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
“Residents are advised to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet.
Adamawa government equally advised people not to take shelter under tree and particularly under isolated tree, as these conducts electricity.
The statement urged people to secure outdoor objects that could blow away or cause damage during thunderstorms.
It further advised people to desist from gathering in a group during thunderstorms urging them to separate each as these would reduce number of injuries.
It further warned people to stay away downed power lines and report them immediately, if at home ensure children and pets animals are inside.##
