Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa
Farauta has expressed sadness over the demise of her bosom friend and Senior Special Adviser of Education to her office, Associate Professor Mary Augustine Vassumu.
Farauta who described the demise as painful and collosal during the funeral service held at EYN Federal Housing Estate in Jimeta Yola, commiserated with the entire Vassumu family, church and the office of the deputy governor and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
The Deputy Governor who represented her Principal, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said the deceased is not just a friend but a sister.
Farauta, in company of her biological relations at the funeral service, said the deceased became part of her family, adding that government is also bereaved by the demise in view of her contribution to the service of God and humanity
In her goodwill message, wife of the former governor of Adamawa State, Dr Zainab Boni Haruna, who had 25 years of outstanding relationship, part of it spent in the same university, said the relationship had been deep over the years.
Zainab Boni Haruna recalled, “We really agreed to go back to school when I was breast feeding as the first lady. We stayed under trees waiting for lectures together.
“Late Madam Mary would read in the market, in the car while singing, and everywhere she found her self. When my father died I was the one consoling her due to our relationship. We had been that much together as family members and as my friend.”
Former EYN President, Rev Joel Billi, in his condolence message, said he received the news of the death of late Mary with shock.
Bili said throughout his eight years of leadership , the deceased was one of the most educated and influencial women who carried my shoulder high.
‘Her contribution was all positive, she lived a humble life, a destabilized woman. A woman in one million people,” Rev Billi said.
Before her demise, the deceased was an Associate Professor with the department of Business Management/Political Science Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola.
She is survived by six children and a husband.
