Dangote Trains 50 Journalists On Reporting Environment For Sustainability
Dangote Group has organized training for 50 journalists in the Northeast on reporting the Environment for Sustainability as climate change educators.
Mr Jibrin Abubakar, Media Relations Manager of the group, in his opening remark, said the training is aimed at sensitization of people from the region on how to limit waste and pollution, uses of renewable energy and create products that are easy to recycle.
Abubakar said the training, supported by Climate Africa Media Initiatives and Centre CAMIC is to retool newsmen with the rudiments of news gathering, investigation and dissemination.
“We should not treat issues of climate change with laxity.
Involving journalists in the fight against effect of climate change is taking the messages to the door step of the people,” Abubskar said.
Dr John Ngamsa, Senior Lecturer, Modibbo Adama University, one of the resource persons, advocated for engagement of more forest guards to safeguard forest.
“It is worrisome, people from Zamfara, Yobe and Taraba are taking part in indiscriminate cutting of trees for firewood in Adamawa,” Ngamsa said.
