Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta has assured of government’s support in preserving cultural and historical heritage sites in the state.
Farauta gave the assurance Thursday when she received
International Council on Monuments and Sites in Nigeria (ICOMOS-Nigeria) at Government House Yola
ICOMOS Nigeria visited the state for a meeting for the conservation of the Sukur Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Madagali local government area.
Dr Oluwatoyin Sogbesan, President, ICOMOS-Nigeria,
said the visit was to brief the state government on their mission.
Sogbesan added that the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and National Commission for Museums and Monuments were partnering on the project.
The project was facilitated by United State Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), aimed at conserving the tangible and intangible heritage of the Sukur people.
Sogbesan urged logistic support from the state government to facilitate the 2-year project.
