The Social Democratic Party, (SDP) is repositioning for growth and will soon come out bigger than its present profile would suggest.
This is according to the National Vice Chairman of the party in charge of the North East, Hon Wafarninyi Theman, a former lawmaker in the Adamawa State House of Assembly who spoke to newsmen in Yola on the party and sundry issues.
Theman who was the state secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC, and aspired for the office of governor in 2023 under it but defected to the SDP in 2023, said although the APC is having a field day now, SDP is building up to be the next major surprise.
“We have everything in place; it’s possible that in the next one week, you will see SDP coming up real big,” he said, stressing, “we are repositioning. We are not afraid of APC or any other party. We have a support base that is ready for manifestation.”
He elaborated, “From next month or March 2026, Nigerians will see action in SDP. We are seeing to how we will conduct the right congresses from ward level to local government, to state; and by the time we have our national convention, you will see a brand new and radically strong SDP.”
He enthused that the SDP which made a huge impact in the early 1990s when it produced the famous MKO Abiola as its presidential candidate and led up to the now historic June 12, 1993, has some of its members at the time whose goodwill the SDP still enjoys and who could prove helpful in the party’s rebuilding efforts.
Daily Post recalls that the SDP which was originally formed by the military government in the Third Republic for a two-party system, the other being National Republican Convention, remains an active party with prominent figures.
