Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, has asked the military to always adhere to rules of engagement in the discharge of their duties.
Farauta said civil and military relationship would wax stronger when the military personnel carry out their duties within their limits as rights violation has tendencies to undermine security efforts.
Speaking during socio-cultural activities organized by the Nigerian Air Force, Yola, Farauta insisted that the ability to win the hearts and minds of people which is crucial to the successes of operations can easily be truncated with human rights abuses
“It is expected that as highly trained officers, you must act within the limit of your rules of engagement while respecting human rights. I equally enjoin you to avoid over zealousness in the discharge of your duties,” she said.
She reassured the military of government’s utmost commitment to support all security agencies to fulfill their mandate of keeping peace and safety of lives and property.
In his remark, the Commander, 153 Base Services Group, Air Commodore Yohana Audu Katabiya, said the event fosters unity aming the security agencies as well as showcase cultural identities.
There was a game, a Tug of War, between the women police and their Air Force counterpart as well as men of the Nigerian Military and the Air Force.
The women and men of the Air Force came out victorious over their opponents.
This followed performances by different cultural groups, with the first, second and third winners of cultural performances going home with cash gifts, while the winners of the female and male category of Tug of War went home with trophies.
