The Anguwan Tana community in Yola North local government area of Adamawa State was on Thursday submerged as a result of overflow of water from River Kilange and River Faro.
Anguwan Tana is located on an offshore of River Benue.
Most members of the community are farmers.
The people lamented bitterly on Friday over how their farms were destroyed following the heavy flow of water they experienced Thursday.
It could be recalled that the government of Adamawa State had earlier warned the people living along flood-prone areas to take necessary precautionary measures to avert dangers associated with the flood about which relevant government agencies alerted the people.
Visiting the affected area, the Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Sulaiman Mohammed, said, “before the inception of rainy season when we received the prediction of flooding we had been warning them but you know human beings are always human beings.”
He stressed the need for them to cooperate with government as it is committed to getting them alternative.
He assured them of food and non-food items.
Mallam Rabiu Ibrahim, the ward head attributed the flood to inadequate drainage system in the area, and appealed to the state government to consider them and intervene in that regard.
On her part, Aisha Mohammed, a mother of ten, said chikdren were in great danger.
Aisha lamented, “We have children and the water is very dirty. It constitutes health and environmental hazard so Government should please do something about it and relocate us to a safer place.
“Although government has been warning us about the flood, we don’t have any place to go to. Tyhis is the only house we have “.
