The Adamawa State Government has ordered the state Urban Planning and Development Authority to remove illegal posters, refuse dumps and illegal billboards as measure to strengthen monthly sanitation exercise.
The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, gave the order Tuesday while inspecting illegal refuse dumps in the state
Farauta expressed concern over heaps of illegal dumps at Round About Maidoki and Lamido Aliyu flyover at Total filling station junction in the state capital, which poses serious threat and environmental hazards to the people.
According to her, some of the illegal posters and billboards erected on public structures are positioned in ways that obstruct the view of road users, causing accidents especially in the night.
She directed state ministry of environment to provide alternatives in disposing of refuse, as government would no longer tolerate refuse being dumped indiscriminately.
At popular Kuwait business area, she urged the traders to be law abiding, saying government would not take it lightly with noncompliance with existing rules to ensure hygienic environment.
“People should key into government’s quest to keep the state clean. Once the traders do their business legally, government would protect them at all times. The traders are our children, they are our people, we are one big family in the state,” the deputy governor said.
Mr Mohammad Sadiq, Commissioner for Environment and Emeka Okafor, leader of the traders, both promised to mobilize people and machinery to clear the area of refuse dumps.
