Adamawa Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta said Nigeria and Cameroon have adopted a win win formula in their efforts to find a lasting solution to the border demarcation between the two countries, especially border areas that fall within Adamawa state.
Farauta disclosed this during the sensitization engagement with stakeholders of local governments along the Adamawa state sector of Nigeria-Cameroon international boundary on proposed resolution of areas of disagreement held in her office on Tuesday.
She said in the preliminary agreement, the two countries agreed to resolve the lingering border issues amicably, through “give and take” instead of going back to international court to seek redress.
According to her, Nigeria and Cameroon had age long relationship of inter marriages, trades and commerce, farming and fishing agreed to be guided by international and national laws in land demarcation and disputes resolution.
The Deputy Governor, who doubles as the chairperson state boundary committee, directed members of the committee among other stakeholders to go back and sensitize the affected communities ahead of the implementation of the agreement between the two countries.
“Nigeri and Cameroon have agreed for a gentleman agreement of in resolving land disputes amicably as brothers.
The Permanent Secretary, Adamawa state Boundary Commission, Mercy Dauda had earlier underscored the importance of the proposed give and take resolution to border issues, noting that it will minimize the losses and ensure peace and development along border communities.
All security agencies and relevant stakeholders at the meeting have also agreed to work for the best interest of the state and the country.
The affected local governments include; Madagali, Michika, Mubi North and South as well as Fufore.
