The Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta has tasked governments and development partners in the fight against climate change to take bold steps towards strengthening vulnerable groups affected by insurgency in the North East.
Farauta made the appeal on Monday during distribution of free solar power irrigation panels to 35 farmers groups and 1,050 small holder beneficiaries for increased productivity through climate smart agriculture and cushion insurgency effects on the zone.
She called on farmers and herders to avoid clash during harvest season and beyond.
“I also wish to cushion farmers against hasty sale of farm produce, especially prod7ce still in the farm,” she said.
The solar panels were provided by International Fertilizer Development Centre-Nigeria to drive the war against climate change in the region.
Farauta said the transformative initiative is aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity and food security in the state.
“It is necessary for governments and development partners to take deliberate steps towards strengthening vulnerable groups to become climate resilient eo that people can absorb the stress and shocks generated by climate change such as drought and flood.
IFDC County Director, Yusuf Dramani, said the common goal of the project is to improve agriculture and food security of the region.
Prof. David Jatau, Commissioners for Agriculture Adamawa State, reiterated government’s support towards improving food security in the state.
Mr Joseph Maman who spoke for the beneficiaries said the training availed them techniques from subsistence farming to mechanized farmers.
The project is implemented in Gombe, Yobe Borno and Adamawa ststes, implemented by Mecy Corps, Feed the Future and Save the Children
