The Senator Representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Aminu Iya Abbas has raised a serious concern about the deteriorating security situation in the Northeast region of the country, focusing on Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
Iya Abbas while speaking in a motion raised on the floor of the Nigerian Senate Friday, highlighted the devastating impact of Boko Haram’s resurgence particularly in Hong local government area of his constituency.
He revealed that the effect and spread of Boko Haram in some communities from his local government area are being felt recently, saying that many lives are lost in some communities of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Senator Iya Abbas who doubles as chairman Senate Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology, while commending the efforts of Nigeria’s security forces, Senator Abbas stressed the need for a tactical overhaul to curb the insurgency.
“Our security forces are trying, but we urge them to consider changing tactics or reworking their plan. This is not a challenge limited to Borno and Yobe—Adamawa is also severely affected,” he said.
He called for the urgent redeployment of additional military personnel to the Northeast, equipped with advanced technology and sufficient resources to counter the rising tide of insurgent attacks.
His prayers resonated with the Senate, which adopted his motion and tasked the Committees on Army and Air Force to ensure compliance and provide rigorous oversight.
