Adamawa state Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta says Nigeria is waiting for great women that can make a change in the political arena.
Addressing participants at the 28th Annual National Conference of National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) held at FCE Yola Monday, Farauta acknowledged that women get it right in the political space in Adamawa state.
According to her, when you have women in positions, whether in the academia, in politics or in the private sector, you are sure you have accountability.
“Nigeria is waiting for great women that can make a change in the political arena. Women have found a space in political arena of Adamawa state,” she said.
She expressed hope for the emergence of woman as local government chairpersons in the next political dispensation.
The Deputy Governor urged mothers to give girls chances to attend schools as they could always be pillar of proud.
She insisted that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration has actively promoted gender inclusivity in governance, aiming to increase the representation of women in decision-making positions.
“Gov Fintiri’s initiatives have included women to key positions within his government and advocating for policies that support gender equality and empowerment.
“He (Fintiri) promoted women in leadership roles as Deputy Governor, vice chairmen across the 21 LGAs for gender equality and women’s empowerment in politics,” she said.
Earlier, Professor Theresa Okoli
during her address of welcome, lauded the conversion of federal colleges of education in Zaria, Kano and Pankshin to degree awarding institutions.
Okoli urged the participants to profer solutions to education, society and promote quality teaching.
The chairman of the occasion Professor Benson Baha, provost COE Hong, solicited support for women for the growth of the education sector.
Baha pointed out that women desire more attention in policies for quality of life and mentoring their children.
The association’s grand patron, Professor Paulinus Chijioke, advised the participants to demonstrate professionalism.
