Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has kicked distribution of farm inputs to 40,000 households in Adamawa state.
The beneficiaries mainly women and youths are expected to rejuvenate the agricultural sector at a time when farming communities are facing unprecedented challenges.
He said the agricultural livelihood support provided by the Multisectoral Crisis Recovery Project MCRP is pivotal to economic growth and the welfare of the people.
He said under the purview of the MCRP government has revitalized dormant fish hatchery, the margar irrigation scheme, four demonstration farms and upgrade of essential facilities at college of agriculture Ganye.
Represented by the State Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta the governor said the livestock productivity enhancement program was designed to improve livestock health and productive through targeted interventions in the area of veterinary service, disease control measures and training of livestock farmers.
Dr Maurice Vunobolki, State Project Coordinator, MCRP in his speech said the support is aimed to boost agricultural production and value chain of 40,000 households through 1000 cooperative societies.
Vunobolki said the distribution covers complete mini mechanized farm tools, certified maize, rice, soya bean seeds.
Serena Cavicchi, Co Tax Team Leader, Head North-East operation World Bank, said the bank is looking into making the intervention more sustainable in the state
Cavicchi said the support would make cooperative societies make future better in addressing huge food and nutrition crisis.
Mr Justine Clement who spoke for the beneficiaries, promised judicious use of the farm inputs collected.##
