The Clerics of the Lutheran church of Christ in Nigeria Lccn have encouraged members to continue with the mandate of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through words and actions, especially in these challenging times.
The Clerics also urged the members of the church to be beacons of hope and increase acts of love and care for one another, particularly towards those at the lowest margin of society.
This is contained in a communique signed by the ArchBishop of the church most Reverend Musa Panti Filibus at the end of 2024 national pastors retreat held at St John’s Arch Cathedral in Numan local Government Area of Adamawa state, with the theme “Being Shepherds of God’s Flock in the Modern World, Challenges and Opportunities for Today’s Pastors”
The Clerics pledge their commitment to ecumenical and inter-religious relationships with other Christian denominations and religious groups aimed at promoting justice, fairness, and peace in their various communities
According to the communique, the Clerics expressed deep concern over the high cost of living and the economic hardships faced by Nigerian citizens, exacerbated by the removal of oil subsidies without clear measures to mitigate its immediate and long-term implications and the devaluation of the naira.
“We call upon the Nigerian Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to urgently identify and implement sustainable solutions to alleviate these economic challenges,” the LCCN leaders stated.
They urged the government at all levels to support local farming activities by subsidizing farming tools and inputs and ensuring farmers are able to go to farms unhindered.
They frowned at all forms of violence, particularly gender-based and domestic violence, and called on government at national and state levels to ensure the practical implementation of legislations already signed into law to combat gender-based violence (GBV).
