The Labour Party local government chairmen in Adamawa State on Thursday movod against the state chairman, Christopher Nicholas.
Eighteen of the party’s 21 LGA chairmen met in the state capital Yola and passed a vote of no confidence on the state chairman, accusing him of incompetence and highhandedness.
The LG chairmen, led by the state Labour Party’s Association of Local Government of Nigeria chairman, Rev Iliya Mathias, said they decided to sack Christopher Nicholas and all his executive committee members because he is incapable of steering the affairs of the party.
In the text of the Vote of No Confidence read to newsmen by the Adamawa LP ALGON chairman, the party LG chairmen accused the embattled state chairman of anti-party activities, alleging that he had since 2022 been the state chairman of both LP and Accord Party.
According to the angry LP LG chairmen also, Christopher Nicholas lacked communication skills and ability to coordinate the party, which they blamed for the poor performance of the party in the 2023 governorship election.
“While awaiting the appropriate action of the National Working Committee, we the local government chairmen of Labour Party, Adamawa State, hereby recognize the following as our new caretaker committee,” the LP LG chairmen said, announcing a new seven-man state caretaker committee.
They named Hon Theman Jonah as the caretaker chairman, with Apwanokona Azmaveth as secretary; Aliyu Mohammed Abubakar as treasurer; Henry Kwataden as PRO; Hajiya Zainab Ahmed as woman leader; Kamalludeen Aliyu as youth leader; and Auwal Chiroma as member.
Reacting, however, a member of the Christopher Nicholas’ executive committee, Apostle Ezra Kwaya, said the move against the state party leadership came as a surprise because the local government chairmen never made any written complaint against the state chairman or any member of the state exco.
Mr Kwaya, until now the state organizing secretary of the Labour Party, expressed the optimism that Nicholas who had often fallen victim of power play and had faced votes of no confidence in no distant past, will yet survive this.
