Adamawa state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta has pleaded with the federal government to introduce teaching of history as subject into primary school curriculum.
Farauta made the appeal yesterday at the Presidential lodge of the Government House Yola l, when she received.team of stakeholders on strengthening STEAM EDUCATION project in the state.
The project team comprises of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Nigerian Academy of Letters and Nigerian Young Academy in collaboration with Joint admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB)
She assured the team of every needed support from the state government to make the project success in the state
According to her, government has accorded education desired concern to move the state forward.
Earlier, the leader of the team, Emiratus Professor Obiana Nwaoran Fas said there is urgent need for National Policy on STEAM: There is presently no national policy on STEAM in Nigeria.
Fas noted perhaps the closet is the national policy on science and technology education, which acknowledges the necessity of effective teaching and learning of science and technology subjects will intimately result in the development of a knowledge-based economy.
She said key areas of the current Nigeria stem education policy that require urgent revision to meet the global trend, especially in the integrative science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) include the following namely
Holistic Curriculum Integration: The new paradigm across the globe involves the use of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to solving scientific, economic, and social problems.
Innovation: The current policy did not integrate creativity into STEM education due to absence of the Arts in the policy hence limiting the practical application of theoretical knowledge.
