The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Adamawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journaliats (NUJ) says it remains one and any other group of people claiming its identity cannot be taken seriously.
The newly inaugurated executives of the Chapel who addressed newsmen in Yola on Friday, described a story attributing authenticity to a set of people calling themselves executives of the Chapel as false, misleading and mischecous.
Chairman of the Chapel, Mr. Ibrahim Kado, who delivered the text of the press briefing, debunked the claims of a splinter leadership within the chapel, and said the March 19 election that brought him and the other exexutives into office was conducted in full compliance with constitutional provisions.
Kado clarified that the election process was initiated in a congress of the Chapel superintended by the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Padio Phineas, who, in line with the Chapel’s constitution, presided over the setting up of a Caretaker Committee (CTC) in January to oversee the electoral process.
Kado refuted the online report that his executive leadership was appointed at the discretion of the NUJ chairman, and demanded the immediate retraction of what he called an unethical and partisan report.
“We remain the substantive executives of the Correspondents’ Chapel and will discharge our duties with integrity, professionalism, and the fear of God,” Kado said.
