The Adamawa State House of Assembly has received the twenty-twenty five proposed budget estimate from Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, marking a significant milestone in the governance of the state.
The budget presentation took place at the Assembly’s complex, with the Speaker Bathiya Wesley, presiding over the session.
In his address after receiving the budget, the Speaker expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for his consistent commitment to the constitutional obligation of timely budget presentation, a practice sustained since his assumption of office in twenty ninteen.
Mr. Wesley highlighted the achievements of the eigth Assembly under his leadership, noting the passage of twenty out of fifty one introduced bills.
The speaker pointed out that among the key legislations are the Adamawa State Appropriation Law twenty-twenty four, the Information Technology Development Agency Law twenty twenty four, and the Teachers Service Commission Law twenty twenty four.
He commended the collaborative efforts between the executive and legislative arms in advancing the state’s development.
The Speaker lauded Governor Fintiri’s exemplary leadership, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, rural development, and security.
He also acknowledged the governor’s proactive measures in civil servants’ welfare, including the prompt implementation of the seventy thousand naira minimum wage and the prioritization of gratuity payments.
Addressing the ongoing challenges, the Speaker appealed to the governor to lift the embargo on youth employment and complete the long-abandoned Assembly complex project.
He assured the Governor of the Assembly’s commitment to the speedy passage of the 2025 budget to ensure its implementation from January.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State House of Assembly has commenced deliberations on the 2025 proposed budget estimate, following its first and second readings during Monday’s plenary session.
Motion to that effect, was moved by the Majority Leader of the House and member representing Demsa constituency, Kate Raymond Mamuno.
Speaker Bathiya Wesley, directed the House Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation to begin the budget defense process immediately.
He directed the committee to scrutinize the budget thoroughly and report back to the house within the week to ensure timely consideration and passage.
The event was attended by members of the State Executive Council, critical stakeholders, and legislators, all underscoring the unity of purpose in driving Adamawa State’s progress.
The 2025 budget, once approved, is expected to build on the achievements of the previous fiscal year, fostering development across all sectors of the state.
