A transparency and accountability advocating NGO, Public & Private Development Centre (PPDC), has launched a five-day bootcamp (training conference) in Adamawa State.
Organised to impact the tenets of transparent procurement process on procurement officers in ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) as well as local government officers and leaders of civil society organisations (CSOs), the boot camp in Adamawa, funded by the MacArthur Foundation, entered its second day Tuesday in the capital, Yola.
In an opening address sent to to the occasion, the Senior Programme Advisor of the PPDC, Ife Olatunji-David, said the bootcamp is an initiative tailored towards catalyzing collective action and driving positive change.
He disclosed that the bootcamp was taking place simultaneously in the states of Adamawa, Kaduna and Ekiti.
“Our mission goes beyond the realms of training and education; it is about catalyzing positive change through collective action. We believe that by bringing diverse stakeholders: government officials, civil society representatives, community leaders and concerned citizens, we can forge a path towards a more inclusive, transparent and accountable sub-national landscape,” the PPDC senior programme advisor said.
The PPDC Gender Mainstreaming and Inclusion Programe Officer, Precious Adigwe who is coordinating the bootcamp in Yola, explained that between 45 and 60 representatives of MDAs, CSOs and media organisations would be attending each day of the training.
She said the event was organized after the PPDC found out in the course of an earlier intervention that there was a huge knowledge gap in public procurement practice.
Among the topics covered in the first two days of the bootcamp have been Overview of Public Procurement Laws & Regulations in Nigeria; Transparency and Accountability in Public Finance Management; Gender Inclusion in Finance Management, Analyzing Tender and Bidding Processes, among others.
