The Principal Special Assistant to Adamawa State Governor on water resources and Sanitation Hon. Abubakar Isa, expressed his appreciation for the commendable efforts of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, CON in directing the Multi Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) to provide portable drinking water to Shelleng township.
Hon. Abubakar Isa made the appreciation while speaking in an interview with newsmen on the recent development which he said upon receiving the complaint about the water scarcity in the area Governor Fintiri directed the MCRP to as matter of urgency commence work from Jumbul/GSS Shelleng water source to address the issue.
He said, the project awarded to Hill Water Resources Nig. Ltd, if completed will pump water to existing massive overhead tank for distribution to Shelleng township and various neighborhood.
He explained that, the project if successfully completed the milestone will mark a significant step towards alleviating water scarcity and eliminating waterborne diseases in the local government.
Abubakar Isa added that, he is very elated to learn of Governor’s commitment to make water available to homes of not only the major towns but the state in general as well as to improve sanitation and hygiene in the areas.
He added that, he is optimistic that with the strong political will and capacity, Fintiri have demonstrated in addressing critical issues in all sectors, the task of providing portable drinking water is also achievable.
“It is a happy moment for the people of Shelleng to receive this news, considering that Shelleng local government is faced with serious water scarcity. This is instrumental in Fintiri’s resolve to mitigate the suffering of the people, and of course, provide them with potable water” the PSA Said.
“I made effort towards addressing the puzzle of the water crisis in Shelleng local government when I was serving as Member in the 6th and 7th Adamawa State House of Assembly respectively which among others include; the ‘MULTI MILLION NAIRA’ rehabilitation of Shelleng township water gallery system sometimes in 2020 to connect houses with portable drinking water.
The water gallery system which undergone comprehensive rehabilitation, supplied water to the people of the area for two years and was unfortunately washed away by flood in 2022.
“I want to assure the good people of Shelleng and other parts of the state that, the Fintiri led administration will do anything humanly possible to address this issue. He added.
Marafa also commend the MCRP Management for their selfless service to North East, Specifically Adamawa State for contributing their quota in advancing the government’s vision to address the lingering water scarcity in Shelleng which is a major host community at height of insurgency in the state as people from northern and central zone moved to the area as their safe haven.
He added that, the Governor insist he will not fold his arms and watch his People suffering from water shortage, hence the need for the prompt action through the MCRP.
“I believe with State Ministry of water resources under its workaholic Commissioner Hon. Ayuba Tanko Audu and the MCRP Management under the leadership of High Chief Maurice Vunobulki, we would get there, In Sha Allah.
As PSA on water resources I will work with other relevant authorities to recommend to the government to do the needful to address the lingering issue across the state. Marafa explained”.
He called on the people of the area irrespective of party affiliation to rally round the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to enable him deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
