Adamawa state Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has directed the activation of Rapid Response Team (RRT), across the 21 local government areas following incidence of acute watery diarrhea in the state
Speaking at state Taskforce on Primary Health Care meeting Tuesdday, she said the decision is to provide a prompt and coordinated outbreak response.
Farauta used the meeting to caution members of the public against self medication
She also mandated health workers to reach out to communities with optimal compliance to routine immunization and ensure they are vaccinated.
She urged the stakeholders to ensure success of the forthcoming, integrated measles supplemental immunization campaign scheduled for 26th October to 1st November, 2024.
“Let’s repeat the success recorded in the last non-polio supplemental immunization campaign in 2022 or even surpass it.
The Deputy Governor, who doubles as chairperson of the task appreciated stakeholders and development partner in the health sector for conduct of cervical cancer awareness in the state.
“I was briefed, 1,972 persons were screened and plan to evaluate all the detected positive cases; so that they can be linked to access their needed care”.
In his remarks, Dr. Sulaiman Saidu Bashir, Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, (ADSPHCDA) said the state recorded 908 sispected cases of measles as at 23rd June, 2024 across the 21 LGAs out of which 206 were confirmed as well as 52 death were recorded.
He commended community and traditional rulers, for standing firm in the implementation of health intervention in the state.
Bashir urged the team to work with the state, traditional rulers and local government chairmen to tactically analyze the states’ response and activities to come up with plans to curtail the future outbreak in the state.
