Residents of Yola the Adamawa state capital and environs, have thronged out to NEPA Central Mosque Eid praying ground in the state capital, where special prayers seeking Allah’s intervention for rain was observed.
It is exactly 25 days in Yola without rain and crops have started drying up at the early growing stage leaving farmers in the state at the mercy of God.
Crops like maize and rice predominantly planted by farmers are leaning and getting withered as the rains ceased for almost one month.
The situation the Chief Imam Demsawo central mosque, Mallam Salihu Usman Suleiman, who led the Istisqa prayer for two rak’ahs urged fervent prayers and repentance from sins.
He asked the congregation to desist from abusing constituted authority and leaders at various helm of affairs, instead, of supportive prayers for them to discharge their duties at all times.
The Clergyman cautioned Muslims against failure to give alms (zakah) to the needy on time, banditry and kidnapping as reasons for famine and draught.
The Acting District Head of Jimeta, Mohammadu Chubado, appreciated people for coming out to attend the prayer.
Chubado directed for continuity of the prayers on daily basis until it rains.
One of the farmers in the state, Aliyu Balla, who had 20 hecters of rice expressed fear that due to shortage of rain the farm might result in poor yield during the harvest season.
